Tavel, in the Rhone, makes seriously good rose. Nothing weak and wishy washy just good, honest, flavoursome wine from a small, highly thought of, property.

OLD VINES ZINFANDEL Ironstone Vineyards 2005 U.S.A. £18.95
Not a huge red but full of different yet complimentary flavours. Great with a variety of meat, game and poultry dishes.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON Heartland wines 2004/05 £21.25
Limestone Coast, Australia
Blackcurrant in colour and also on the nose. This is classic Cabernet from an area in Australia which really does the grape justice.

RIOJA RESERVA VEGA DEL RAYO 1998/2001 Spain £22.95
Richly flavoured with ripe plum and dried fruit characteristics and just a touch of cinnamon and vanilla.

BRINDISI ROSSO Vina Flamino 2003 Italy £16.50
Another, medal winning, star from the Puglia area of south Italy.
It has good tannins which aren’t aggressive and a touch of raisins.

A past Gold Medal winner, voted for by the grower’s peers. It has bags of almost crunchy ripe fruit with an underlying serious structure.

A prominent nose of cherries and damsons. The palate has well rounded tannins and serious fruit.
